Requirements for Foreign-Trained SLTs:
- Recognition of Qualifications:
- All applicants holding professional qualifications obtained outside the Republic of Ireland must have their qualifications recognized by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board before applying for registration.
- Registration with CORU:
- After recognition of qualifications, applicants must apply for registration with CORU to legally practice as an SLT in Ireland.
- Language Proficiency:
- Applicants whose first language is not English or whose qualifications were obtained in a non-English speaking country may be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.
- Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA):
- Ireland is a signatory to the Agreement for the Mutual Recognition of Professional Association Credentials (MRA 2022). If you are registered for more than one year with one of the following international professional organizations, you may apply under the MRA to become a member of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT) and to register with CORU:
- The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- The New Zealand Speech-Language Association (NZSTA)
- The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
- Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC-OAC)
- Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
- Applicants not registered with one of these organizations must apply through the standard procedure to have their qualifications accredited in Ireland.
- Ireland is a signatory to the Agreement for the Mutual Recognition of Professional Association Credentials (MRA 2022).
